Snap Judgement: This week's top 10
Here's a quick look at the top grossing films of the week, along with my opinion about the films based solely on promotional material. Listed is rank, title, weekend gross, and total gross.
Thoughts: A horrible, pointless movie that only sullies the name of a classic comedic actor, Peter Sellers. Though it's technically not a remake, the line, "If it's a remake of a classic -
RENT THE CLASSIC!" definitely holds true.
Thoughts: I can't believe they are on part 3 of this nonsense and it's
not a direct to DVD release. How is there an audience to this? Who is greenlighting this? Not only is this further proof that there is no God, another Jay Sherman rule applies here: "After Roman Numeral II, give it a rest."
Thoughts: A little treacle
for my taste. Also, much should be said about the death of true voice actors in animated films. Read this Onion AV Club interview with amazing voice talent Billy West (Who voiced Stimpy from Ren and Stimpy, and many voices in Futurama including Fry and Dr. Zoidberg,) for a good explanation.
Click for Interview Thoughts: Has Harrison Ford been relevant in years? Can you name his last really big movie? He seems to be really irritable in this one.
Thoughts: Hey, look! It's another crappy horror movie remake! The world really needed another one of these. Negative 11ty billion points for using the line, "The call is coming from inside the house!"
Thoughts: Is this the one where Big Momma has a coronary and dies? If so, I'll go watch it.
Thoughts: Nanny McPhee is played by
Emma Thompson? Holy crap.
Thoughts: My favorite part about everything surrounding this movie is the college student who asked President Bush, since he's a rancher, if he's seen Brokeback Mountain. Bush really hemmed and hawed at that question. Good times.
Thoughts: Seems like a good idea. Who doesn't like vampires and werewolves? Does
Kate Beckinsale remind anyone else of adult film actress
Tabitha Stevens? Even vaguely? Am I crazy?
Thoughts: Three kid's movies in the top 10. It's a good week to be under 10. My thoughts are pretty much summed up in Curious George.
